JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – Jefferson County commissioners covered a lot of ground during their Thursday meeting, with one topic bringing about some exciting news for the county.
Commissioners received a letter from the Regional Airport Authority Board, recommending they enter into a contract to sell 25 percent of the minerals that are already under lease.
"The money that would come in from the proceeds of the sale would go for several things,” Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Gentile said. “One of the immediate things would be to pay back Jefferson County commissioners so that we can reimburse the emergency fund for some of the engineering fees that were involved in that upgrade to the runway."
Commissioners are sending the contract to the county prosecutor to ensure they can enter into the agreement and the airport board contacted legal counsel from Columbus as to the terms of the sale.
