Church destroyed by fire in Brilliant

Updated: Monday, June 23 2014, 06:22 PM EDT
BRILLIANT, Ohio -- Investigators have been working to determine what caused a fire that destroyed Salt Run Bible Camp in Brilliant on Sunday morning.
It's a place that's usually busy this time of year with week-long bible camps.
The state Fire Marshal was on the scene Monday investigating the cause, while the people who run the camp said they'll try to keep things going.
The building was once an old school house. In two weeks, it was supposed to be dorms for the latest round of campers.
Now it's a total loss.
One of the lease holders, Ellsworth Butler, explained some of the building's history.
"It’s just been used to minister to young people,” he said. “Occasionally some of the Sunday schools that used to be around here that were started by the American Missionary Fellowship used to attend. There used to be youth rallies every month."
Ohio power owns the property and now that the church is destroyed. It is uncertain about what it will do.
"Right now what agreements we have with them looks like we can stay here until August 2016,” Butler said. “We don't know what’s ahead for us with this building like this. Nobody knows, we ask your prayers."
The property still has two cabins, a large field, and outhouses that weren't touched by the fire. So there may still be hope for a week-long teenage bible conference with around 30 kids.
"We’re still trying now to try to come up with some other way to have a camp -- maybe rent some place.
The State Fire Marshal indicated the fire does not appear to be foul play but an investigating is ongoing.
