YORKVILLE, Ohio – Could there be new life for the Wheeling-Pitt Steel plant?
Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Ohio) had a big announcement about it and the Ohio coatings plant Monday.
Johnson said there is interest from a potential buyer at the former Wheeling-Pitt Steel Mill and Ohio Coatings Plant, but it is still too premature to get definitive details.
Johnson toured the plant Monday, saying it is a significant employer in the area, and they want locals to stay gainfully employed and put others to work, too.
He said it’s all part of their Jobs and Economic Development Work. On April 4, there was a letter of intent signed by an interested buyer to invest in, and buy out a share in both Ohio Coatings and the former Wheeling-Pitt mill.
"When you have hard-working people from Ohio and have a business at stake here and it has proven its value to the region, I think it's an easy sale to get people to come to table to make things happen," Johnson said.
Johnson is optimistic they will solve this problem, but he adds there still is some work to be seen. The process should wrap up over the next six weeks so they can finally move forward.
