JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – Two drug busts were made Tuesday night, one in Mingo Junction and the other in Steubenville.
After receiving several tips, NEWS9’s Ryan Eldredge made a trip to both addresses and found nothing.
He also made dozens of calls that night and none of the officials in Jefferson County were involved. But it was one tip that put him in the right direction. It was a source who told said the FBI was handling the case.
An affidavit and a criminal complaint obtained through the U.S. Attorney's Office serving Jefferson County tell the story of a shocking drug takedown that happened Tuesday night.
According to the paperwork, Sean Dwayne Loveless, aka “Puff,” was arrested and charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
That followed a months-long investigation launched by the FBI and Hancock, Brooke, Weirton Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
It’s an investigation that started with an arrest back in December.
Officials say Loveless was a mid-level member of an organization responsible for heroin distribution and acted as an informant during the investigation, which netted more than a dozen arrests.
But soon after he himself become the focus of an investigation and over the course of four months, investigators made controlled buys of heroin.
That leads us to Tuesday night when two search warrants were executed at two different homes.
The first along George Street in Mingo Junction; the second along Ravine Street in Steubenville.
The end result was the seizure of 330 grams of heroin, eight guns, one of which was reported stolen in Winterville, Ohio on Dec. 5, 2009, and $10,000 in cash.
In an interview detailed in the affidavit that happened shortly after Loveless stated that he had been distributing heroin in Steubenville for the past three years.
