Two women were injured Monday after a dog attack involving four pit bulls.

One woman is saying the injured women intervened when the dogs attacked her dog. The woman wanted to remain anonymous but says the women heard her screaming and ran over to help.

“If it wasn’t for her and her friend, I don’t know what would have happened,” she said.

Steubenville Animal Control officer Romel Miniefield said while the intervention by the women was well intentioned, he does not advise jumping in the middle of fighting dogs.

“Their intentions were good. They were just trying to break up the dog fight. But, you know, like I said, you got pit bulls. They’ve got one hell of a bite. You have to be real careful with the animals,” Miniefield said.

The four dogs have been quarantined and the owner will appear in municipal court Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The owner was issued five citations and could be fined $250 for each.
