BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- A Jefferson County man who accidentally, non-fatally shot his friend last October after a night of drinking was sentenced to five years in prison Monday.

John James Green changed his plea to guilty in front of Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese, admitting he shot his friend with a 12-gauge shotgun in October 2013 along County Road 55.
I didn't intentionally try to shoot him, Green said. We have been buddies for 20 years. With the alcohol, it was a bad decision.
Green was indicted by a grand jury in November on charges of felonious assault with a gun specification. That stemmed from an unrelated incident. However, it came into play Monday, adding to the sentence from Bruzzese.
What we are going to do is go along with the agreed recommendation of sentence which is 2 years in prison for the second degree felony and the 3 mandatory on the firearms specification, Bruzzese said.
The five years is the minimum Green could have been sentenced.
He is no longer allowed to handle any firearms. If he does, hes breaking both state and federal laws. He says hes given up drinking as well.
