HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. – New retail is on its way, and the medical community is growing in Weirton.
New retail space in the village across from the Weirton Medical Center is fully rented. Minor Insurance and Awe-Sum Hair Salon currently occupy that building, and two more businesses will now soon join them.
“The other half is going to be all medical,” said Mike Heilman from the Altair Development Group. “We signed the lease with some medical people.”
On the other side, across from the two new physical therapy suits, Heilman said more business is to come and doctors and companies are interested in buying.
“We're building two new buildings there will be another 7,000 square feet for retail,” he said. “A lot of it will be medical related.”
Rocks, gravel, bulldozers and two buildings sit at the end of road down from the Kwik Fill awaiting eight more commercial sites to be built, those plans changed from residential to businesses.
Heilman said no one has signed anything yet for the buildings that sit down from the village.
“We feel that is where the future is here because of the hospitals growing and they are doing really good with expansion,” Heilman said. “They are almost out of room.”
The eight commercial lots will be done by June 1. And the building process for the other developments across from the hair salon and insurance company will begin this spring. They’re slated to be finished by fall.
