JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio --

Humane officials are investigating the possibility that a dog was starved to death and its body left outside for a month.

The Great Dane's remains were found around 12:45 p.m. Monday at a home on Stanton Avenue in Mingo Junction after an anonymous tip.

The dog's remains were frozen to the ground in a garbage bag under a dog house, officials said.

"By looking at the animal, I believe it was starved to death and it was frozen to the ground. Four days after they knew it died, they put it in a garbage bag and left it there," said Humane Officer Cassandra Howell.

Witnesses said the dog had been there for about 30 days and officials believe the dog was starved to death.

Howell said this is an ongoing investigation and she intends to pursue charges.
