Pair arrested for pharmacy fraud

Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 10:40 AM EDT
STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Two suspects were arrested in connection to fraudulently trying to get drugs from a Steubenville pharmacy, and a worker at the pharmacy helped police to make those arrests.
Thursday evening's arrest came after police say the suspects tried to fill the same prescription from not one but two Jefferson County pharmacies over the phone.
A worker at the Kroger Pharmacy in Wintersville was alarmed by the suspicious activity and made some calls.
They immediately contacted the crew at the Kroger pharmacy along Sunset Boulevard, which then got in touch with police.
Officers were able to track the name of the caller and identified him as 24-year-old Thomas Bradly. It turns out he had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court.
Police records show the pair used the same identification number for both attempted pick-ups.
While police did not catch up with the suspects – the other 23-year-old Victoria L. Jackson -- at the pharmacy, workers were able to help give an exact description.
Officers later caught up with them in a gas station parking lot.
Questions and a search revealed an empty bottle of Xanax pills.
Bradly reportedly told police they took several, and sold the rest.
Police charged Bradley with deception to obtain a dangerous drug. Jackson was charged with complicity to obtain a dangerous drug.
Police say while heroin continues to be a big issue in the Jefferson County area, they also continue to fight prescription drug abuse, and can use all the help they can get.
"Whenever pharmacies get information like that and pass it along to police, it helps us tremendously in apprehending these people who are trying to deceive them to obtain drugs that they shouldn't have,” Steubenville Police Chief Bill McCafferty said.
This wasn't the first time Bradley has been arrested. He has been behind bars numerous times since 2008 on charges varying from domestic violence to theft.
