TORONTO, Ohio -- One gun and lots of alcohol.
That was the scene that began last Friday evening and lasted throughout the weekend until police arrested three kids -- all under the age of 12 - on Sunday afternoon. All three are in the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center after a wild and scary weekend.
"A 10-year-old, an 11-year-old, and a 12-year-old got together, got some alcohol and the 12-year-old stole a handgun from the mom's boyfriend out of the house and took it," Toronto Police Chief Randy Henry said.
After that, police say the girl and two other kids ran off with the loaded gun, pointing it at kids and other people, threatening to pull the trigger.
"They were out shooting the gun, drinking alcohol," Henry said.
Police say the kids were on the run for about two days.
Friends and family made Facebook posts in an effort to find the kids.
Police say the three were spotted at a creek drinking alcohol. They were also seen in Pleasant hills until police caught them along State Route 213.
All three kids are facing a list of charges that include possession of stolen property, theft of a firearm and underage consumption. Police say it is unclear what the motive was.
