JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- A U.S. Air Force plane has been a fixture at a Jefferson County Park for more than a decade, but its presence could be threatened if work to keep it in good condition isn't done soon.
Worn paint  is easy to see, and the plane in dire need of some up-keep.
"Some of the veterans didn't even know where to find this kind of paint, so we are researching that now," Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Graham said. "It needs updated ... and we're going to do it out of respect to the veterans who have served this county. We want to make those vehicles out there look right."
They're concentrating on the cockpit, and all parts of the plane that have been an important piece of the Fort Friendship Veterans Memorial Museum.
If a solution isn't found soon, it could be re-claimed.
"We don't keep the upkeep on it, then we stand the risk of losing that particular vehicle, or any of those vehicles out there," Graham said. "Friendship Park has a very nice dedication to veterans that have served this great country, and we're very thankful for that. "
Graham said fellow Commissioner Tom Gentile is spearheading the research efforts.

The exact price tag to keep the plane on the ground is up in the air.
"We know it won't be cheap, but we can do it over time if we have to," Graham said. "But we have the money through capital improvements to make sure we take care of the vehicles out there. "
Graham placed a call into Congressman's Bill Johnsons office Tuesday afternoon, hoping he'd be a good resource considering his background in the military.
The congressman told him that they will expedite the process to get the paint in the right hands, and make sure this process moves forward.
Upcoming Memorial Day service will take place at Friendship Park at 3 p.m. on May 26.
