Three Jefferson County businesses broken into early Easter morning

Updated: Sunday, April 20 2014, 06:13 PM EDT
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – Law enforcement officials were very busy Easter morning in Jefferson County as three businesses were broken into in Wintersville -- all within a half a mile from each other and all taking less than a half an hour after 4 a.m.
The break-ins occurred at the Dollar General and Smith Oil gas station on Canton Road and Sportsman's Trading Post on Cadiz Road.
At Sportsman's Trading Post, the burglar broke in through the front glass window and stole seven handguns.
Police are not sure about what exactly was taken from the two other locations.
Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said these suspects were in and out of the stores very quickly.
“Two of the places we responded to we were there in less than 5 five minutes,” Abdalla said. “So these thieves -- I call them thieves and dirtballs -- they don't care where they go, what they do seven days a week. Easter Sunday, they're out doing these types of things.
“Like I've said in the past, when weather is breaking, they come out of the wordwork like cockroaches.”
Abdalla believes these three break-ins are related and they are still under investigation.
