WINTERSVILLE, Ohio --

Despite the winter weather, work at the waste water treatment plant in Wintersville continues.

Upgrades at the plant have been ongoing over the past year.

The three-phase, $3 million project will help the plant stay in compliance with the EPA while keeping up the quality of service to the village.

Crews have already installed a new belt press, rebuilt two clarifiers and rebuilt four of the six aeration tanks.

On Wednesday, workers were finishing up the last two tanks and were also in the process of building and installing domes. The domes will cover the outdoor clarifiers to prevent debris like leaves from clogging the system.

“There's some little electrical work that needs to be completed. Some piping and when spring comes they'll be paving the road down in and doing some restoration and clean up," said Village Administrator Walt Ziebma.

All of that work only marks the end of phase one. Once that is completed, which is scheduled to be at the end of spring, phase 2 will begin which will focus on rehabilitating lift stations and pumps as well as installing a state of the art monitoring system.

All of this work, Ziemba said, will not change any fees for village residents.
