JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio - On Monday, Steven Threats stood before a judge for the first time since being accused of killing Chad Taravella last Wednesday in Wintersville.
Tuesday was the second time at a preliminary hearing where some answers were unearthed involving the fatal shooting at the Ridgewood Apartments.
It was emotional day.
Once inside the courtroom, family and friends of both the victim and Threats were there in silence for the majority of the proceedings.
The judge ruled in favor of the prosecution after one witness for the state made her way to the stand.
She testified that she heard from Threats that the victim had pulled a gun on Threats and a group of friends earlier in the night. That same woman said Threats later acknowledged he shot the victim and then hid the gun in the woods.
It was that testimony that allowed the court to proceed to the grand jury.
"There were allegations that the victim had a weapon on him." Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin said.
Threats has  been charged with murder and tampering with evidence and is being held on a $1 million bond.
