BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – An 18-year-old man faces felony charges after authorities say he refused to stop his vehicle early Monday morning as police attempted to pull him over, instead igniting a chase that spanned state lines and ended on Interstate 70 in Belmont County.
Police say it began with a report of a stolen vehicle at CD's Irish Pub in Elm Grove. Officers searching for the car located it and tried to make a traffic stop, but the suspect fled from police on I-70.
Officers kept in close pursuit and the man pulled over on I-70 west near Exit 220, then reportedly got out and tried to run from police, jumping over a fence and running another 200 yards. His alleged attempt to flee was not good enough as officers finally took him into custody and placed him under arrest.
As a result, Raymond Cordell Asbury IV was arrested around 3 o'clock Monday morning and booked into the Belmont County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
Bond was set at a combined $15,000. Asbury will face another set of charges out of Ohio County.
Asbury is awaiting his arraignment where he'll be extradited back to West Virginia to face those additional charges.
