Birthday girls give back

Updated: Wednesday, August 6 2014, 05:57 PM EDT

Two young girls have decided to ask for donations this year as birthday presents instead of the normal gifts.

Morgan Jefferson, 8, said she wanted to ask for donations instead of gifts because she felt there were people who needed them more than her.

I talked to my little sister Ally, she’s 4, and talked her into helping too,” said Morgan Jefferson.

Morgan and Ally have their party together since their birthdays are both in August. Morgan’s birthday is Aug. 30 and Ally’s is Aug. 15.

The girls are celebrating on Aug. 18 at Grand Vue Park and instead of making a long list, as kids do at this age, guests are asked to bring an item for the babies and young mothers at Crittenton.

The gift list includes new clothing and care items for both infants and moms.

Morgan and Ally’s mom, Ami, sent out invitations with a list of needed items at Crittenton, urging guests to give.

She is also a Thirty-One consultant and is holding an online party to raise more money for the agency.

Items listed are things such as new bottles, bibs, and diapers for the babies, beauty care products, journals and photo albums for the adolescents.

I'm very proud of Morgan for suggesting it and for Ally, a 4-year-old, to agree to give up birthday presents to help others. I was inspired by their generosity and wanted to help out as well,” said Ami Jefferson.

The Thirty-One party ends Aug. 6. To learn more or to make a purchase, go to Crittenton’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Crittenton-Services-Inc/87591547911 or contact Stacy Rich at Crittenton Services at 304-242-7060. Donations for Morgan and Ally’s birthday party can also be made at Crittenton at 2606 National Road, Wheeling.
