Changes coming to Buckeye Local’s staff insurance

Updated: Thursday, July 3 2014, 10:24 AM EDT

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio- Some controversy is beginning to boil in the  Buckeye Local School District.

NEWS9 has learned that the school board is moving forward with changes to the insurance plan of many school employees.

These employees, including bus drivers, custodians, and cooks will see an increase in their wages, but will now pay a monthly deductible.

Members of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees say they are not happy with this plan because they've never had to pay a deductible before.

Now the plan has not been finalized, but superintendent  Mark Miller said the board met  Wednesday to continue working.

"The board gave its last, best, final offer, the union had six months. They didn't meet and so the board decided they needed to get moving on this" says Miller.

The deductible is supposed to be gradually implemented in a three-year plan. The O.A.P.S.E. will formally respond to these changes on July 22.
