Charity Hospice holds first memorial lantern release

Updated: Tuesday, July 29 2014, 11:26 PM EDT

Close to 100 people gathered at Friendship Park for Charity Hospice’s first memorial lantern release Tuesday night.

They invited anyone in the community who has lost a loved one to the event.

People came together to light lanterns in remembrance of brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents and even pets that they have lost.

“Hospices are required to provide memorial events for loved ones, and this is our way of giving back and remembering loved ones,” COO of Charity Hospice, Hope Kurtz said.

“Within the last three months we’ve lost two very close members of our family. My brother unexpectedly, and we’re letting a lantern go for him and my mother died. So we just felt this is a way for them to know that we miss them and we love them very much,” Pam Longevitch said.

Charity Hospice provides services to Belmont, Columbiana, Harrison and Jefferson counties.
