BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -  Brooke County residents are concerned about the safety of the roads, saying it's a problem that should have been fixed years ago.
U.S. Congressman David McKinley (R-W.Va.) and Wellsburg city officials are fed up.
"I've grown up here, and I've been putting up with these roads and I'm frustrated as much as the next guy," McKinley said. "I think we deserve to have a better highway system."
The problem is W.Va. 2 between Weirton and Wheeling.
"We have rock slides continuously on both sides of the river, especially north and south of Wellsburg," said 4th Ward Councilman Charlie Harris.
Harris voiced those concerns at a roundtable discussion with McKinley and other city officials Thursday.
"We've got safety concerns and Community Economic Development concerns without having good highways," McKinley said. "Having a bridge would be great, but if it doesn't connect to a highway system, then it doesn't work."
McKinley said he is not surprised to hear how many people in Wellsburg are frustrated about this issue.
"It comes up in our staff meetings in Washington," he said. "We talk about it."
McKinley said he will contact the West Virginia Department of Highways to discuss the problem.
