MONROE COUNTY, Ohio -- A Powhatan woman has been arrested and charged with theft after a lengthy investigation involving local and federal authorities.
All of this took place as police investigate her husband's murder.
On Thursday, Detective Sgt. Ryan Allar with the Belmont County Sheriff's Office, members of the FBI, and the Belmont County Drug Task Force served an arrest warrant on Deborah Brown.
Brown was taken into custody and arrested for theft in what Sheriff Dave Lucas said involved a significant amount of money, stemming from Powhatan Construction, a company formerly owned by her husband, Marvin Brown.
The arrest was part of a lengthy and complicated financial investigation.
“I’d like to thank the Belmont County Drug Task force along with the FBI for providing us with invaluable assistance throughout this investigation,” Allar said. “We couldn’t have done what we did without their assistance."
As for the homicide of Marvin Brown, authorities continue to work diligently.
“Marvin Brown's murder case is a top priority,” Lucas said. “Detective Allar and the rest of the agency are working aggressively. We're not going to stop."
It’s an ongoing investigation and no other details are being released just yet.
