Local authorities investigate two armed robberies Saturday

WHEELING, W.Va. -

Local authorities are working together to investigate two armed bank robberies that occurred Saturday morning, which they believe were done by the same person.

The first bank robbery happened on Wheeling Island and the second one happened in St. Clairsville.

The Wheeling Police Department responded to a call around 11:15 a.m. Saturday in regards to an alarm at the Wheeling Island Wesbanco.

When officers arrived they found out it was an armed robbery and that the suspect fled on foot west from the bank.

Lt. Rob Marriner, with the Wheeling Police Department, said the suspect walked into the bank, put a gun on the counter and demanded money.

Multiple agencies searched the area for the suspect.

According to Belmont County Sheriff's Department, there was another armed bank robbery around noon Saturday at the Wesbanco in St. Clairsville.

The Belmont County Sheriff's Department, the Wheeling Police Department and the FBI are investigating.
