NEW ALEXANDRIA, Ohio – The people of New Alexandria are the latest victims of car break-ins.
This time, it happened around 3 this morning when a line of cars were broken into on County Road 19.
While police look for the suspects, victims say they are simple fed up with thieves stealing their hard-earned money.
Resident Clyde Still Jr. said he couldn't sleep. It was 3 a.m. so he got up and made coffee walked out on his porch. He saw a light on in his car.
“It's usually real quiet around here,” he said. “I opened the door looked around the screen door and saw the guy bent over in my car. I yelled and asked him what he was doing. By then, the second one behind the car, which I didn't see at first, ran.”
He said he would rather keep his car unlocked and empty.
“Everybody talks about locking your car up. You lock your car up then you have to pay for the window to have it fixed,” he said.
Still Jr. described the men wearing black hoodies, jeans and they were both white males.
“We work hard to make our money, and you have people out there doing drugs stealing off the people that make the money, that's what's sad,” he said. “I couldn't say anything to them. I would want to do other things to them, and if I would've caught them this morning, they wouldn't have ran.”
Still Jr. chased them but couldn't keep up with them.
“You hear about it but until it happens to you,” fellow victim William DeGarmo. “It's just weird, it really is. Locking your cars, obviously, doesn't work because they just broke the windows out of my wife’s. The only thing I want to say to them is if you're that hard off money, get a job. You don't have to steal off of hard-working people.
“It's a nuisance, it really is.”
It's unclear who exactly is responsible for the latest string of robberies. Police remain busy investigating.
