WELLS TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- After flooding caused a portion of Township Road 152 to be cut off and isolated from emergency personnel, Township trustees and commissioners are considering building an extension of the road to avoid leaving them stranded in an emergency.
"It was flooded out and residents on the other side were there for 3 or 4 days and there was a situation where residents were in need of oxygen and they couldn't get to it," Wells Township trustee Joe Ellis said.
They are considering building an alternate route that would connect 152 with Miner Road, allowing access from two directions.
Commissioners went and viewed the area and held a public meeting on the issue.
"You can never be sure, someone says it used to be a road years ago, and maybe there was," Jefferson County Commissioner Dave Maple said. "But in today's meeting, we went out to the site viewed the roads with the trustees and the residents, with everybody and anybody that's concerned."
Commissioners have authorized County Engineer Jim Branigan to prepare a plan after being provided a survey paid for by Wells Township trustees.
Maple added that this project is still months, or perhaps years, from being completed.
