WHEELING, W.Va. – Saturday marks the 2nd Annual Centre Market Wing Festival in Wheeling.
After selling out of thousands of wings last year, organizers say they're more prepared this year. And they’re expecting even more people.
After selling more than 17,000 wings last year, five more vendors have been brought in.
"We ended up last year, I would assume there were probably 4,000 people down here, and this year, there's going to be even more,” said Greg Basil, owner of Good Stuff Barbeque
Basil is one of 16 vendors participating in the festival, along with Ye Ole Alpha, River City Ale Works, Wild West Sports Bar, and many more.
"Last year we sold 600 pounds,” Basil said. “We do a whole fresh wing. We have a couple of really great sauces and we have a sneaky dry rub we're sticking in there, though."
The festival will take over the entire area in the heart of Centre Market. If wings aren't your thing, there are stores and other food options.
Greg Myers, co-chair of the festival and owner of Market Vines, said they're also having Hawaiian Ice and Kettle corn.
Three local bands are set to hit the streets as well -- Brett Cain, Hit Play, and Bone Daddy.
"We just hope it's going to be a good turnout,” Myers said. “Good weather this year, we have a lot more vendors coming down. We expect it to be another great turnout."
Myers says with the store fronts staying open in Centre Wheeling, he is hoping to show off what that particular growing area of wheeling has to offer.
Several downtown Wheeling roads will be closed for the event, including 22nd and 23rd streets and part of Main and Market Streets.
The event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 11 p.m.
