Parking Enforcement Officer cleaning up issues in Steubenville

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- Since the introduction of an officer dedicated to parking enforcement, things have changed in Steubenville.
Earlier this summer, we investigated the parking situation in Steubenville and found dozens of infractions in a 1-hour span. During the course of 1 hour today, one was found. And the police department is a big reason why. It's not because of all the officers, but because of one that has written 125 tickets over the course of the past month.
City leaders say the biggest difference is that the laws are being obeyed.
"It started out real well and it's continuing to do well," Steubenville Police Chief Bill McCafferty said. "Two-hour parking people would park all day. Tickets have gone down, and we expected that to happen as people were aware we were enforcing it."
City leaders say they'll keep the officer employed as long as the funds are available.
