JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- Piles of debris tell the story of shocking devastation that of a house explosion that happened in Pottery Addition at Woodmont Avenue at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday.
On Monday, investigators made their way back out to the scene and are calling it an arson investigation. They said the home was vacant at the time of the explosion and no one was injured as a result.
Officials from the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office believe the explosion was caused by an incendiary fire, meaning they think someone started a fire intentionally after the explosion. Investigators are trying to work out exactly how that happened, how the fire and explosion are connected, and if the person did intend for this to happen.
A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for the fire. Investigators want to hear from anyone who saw something out of the ordinary at or around the time of the fire or who may have heard someone speaking about the fire with an unusual level of interest or knowledge.
