CONSOL statement on miner death

Updated: Saturday, October 5 2013, 05:23 AM EDT

CAMERON, W.Va.--

CONSOL Energy released the following information regarding a fatal mine accident that happened Friday:

"On Friday afternoon, CONSOL Energy employee Roger R. King, 62, a senior longwall maintenance coordinator at the McElroy Mine near Cameron, WV, succumbed to injuries he sustained in an underground accident.  Mr. King, a resident of Moundsville, WV, began his career with CONSOL Energy at the Ireland Mine in 1969 and worked at the McElroy mine for the past 17 years.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Mr. King’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.  McElroy Mine operations have ceased temporarily and will resume beginning 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

CONSOL Energy is working closely with state and federal mine safety officials to determine the cause of the incident.  Safety remains at the core of everything we do at CONSOL Energy.  It is our priority to prevent events like this one from ever happening and we continue to strive for a workplace experience of zero accidents.

At this time, CONSOL has no further details; we will provide updated information as it becomes available."
