MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va.--

Three homes in Marshall County will soon be torn down thanks to local and federal emergency management.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund the effort as part of a flood mitigation program.

Marshall County EMADeputy Director Michael Mucheck said 17 homeowners applied, but only the three were picked.

They were all flooded in the 2004-2005 floods and most of it was backwash from the river, said Mucheck.

Two of the properties are in Moundsville; the other is in Benwood. Two were unoccupied; one homeowner had to relocate.

Its a great relief for the homeowner and beneficial for FEMA, because they don't have to keep paying to get these homes remodeled after each flood, said Mucheck.

Mucheck says Marshall County now has 90 days to demolish the properties. He says the project took three to four years to come to light.
