Small businesses thriving because of snow

By: Crissy Clutter

The severe winter affecting most of our region has been good for small business owners driving snowplows or selling supplies.

Chris Yensen, with Yensen Landscape and Supply, says business is thriving.

“Crews start plowing around 2 a.m. and don't quit until the next afternoon,” Yensen said. “We've plowed snow twice as many days this year as last year.”

Meanwhile, at the Busy Beaver in Moundsville, they are selling out of supplies.

General Manager Mark Wiegmann says a shipment of salt came in over the weekend and went fast.

“We've been completely going nuts with salt sales and shovels, every electric heater we had and every gas heater,” said Wiegmann.

Although sales are up, both say they're ready for warmer weather.

The hardware store and Yensen's say keeping stocked with salt has been a challenge this year.
