MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. – Marshall County commissioners are seeking more information about a multi-million dollar power plant planned for Moundsville.
Under the proposed plan, the county would own the plant and lease it to Moundsville Power for $1 million a year.
A meeting on the subject took place Monday morning with Marshall County commissioners, concerned citizens, attorneys and insurers all on hand.
County commissioners are checking and double-checking their liability. Many say they still have reservations on the county owning the plant, but most agree it would be a good thing for the area.
"I still have concerns about the county ownership because I don't believe in government ownership of business and the liability with that. but also the general deal the way it goes as far as with the low percentage the county's going to get compared to other taxpayers,” Marshall County Commissioner Bob Miller said.
Meanwhile, many say without the Pilot Plan, the project just won't work.
Officials and leaders from the Regional Economic Development Partnership answered questions and made a formal pitch for the plant on Monday morning.
"I think caution is a good thing when you're looking at long term investment,” Local 141 Union President Glenn Douglas Giffin said. “But I think a lot of the major questions have been answered, and I think it needs to be looked at as going forward.”
