In Moundsville on Tuesday night, the City Council passed in ordinance pertaining to pawnbrokers.

The updated ordinance is a change in language and definition. It also outlines exactly what pawn shops can accept.

The ordinance is to ensure that shops are accounted for and to keep track of stolen property that may make its way to a pawn shop.

Moundsville Police Chief Tom Mitchell says that it does not include yard sales or auctions but focuses on pawn shops, which in the new definition include second-hand-shops.

Mayor Eugene Saunders says the pawn shops will have clear requirements on how to operate within the guidelines of the law.  He hopes that the pawn shops will be more reluctant to buying items that may be stolen.
