Wheeling, W.Va. –

Girls and women were invited
to take to the skies above the Ohio Valley at the “Women of Aviation” program
at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport.

Women of Aviation is an
international organization to get girls up in the sky for the first time. Local
pilot Natalie Campana-Lucas said she was excited to hold the Ohio Valley’s
second annual Women of Aviation program with Pier Aviation.

“Women of Aviation week for
here, has been an awesome opportunity, there are several amazing women right in
the Ohio Valley that are pilots,” Campana-Lucas said.

Visitors got a chance to tour
the Wheeling’s Aviation Museum and air traffic control tower and to view
airplanes and a helicopter. Pier Aviation offered airplane rides over the Ohio
Valley for $30.

Also, Pier Aviation Flight
Instructor Phillip Bender took the time to talk with visitors about
introductory flight lessons.

“Women of Aviation week is
dedicated to allowing girls an opportunity to go fly for the first time but we
don’t forget the boys, they’re always allowed to come and fly,” Campana-Lucas
said.

Local women pilots spoke to
kids about working in aviation and to show people the opportunities available
in the Ohio Valley.

“If you’re interested in
learning how to fly, we have several flight options here, right here in the
Ohio Valley,” Campana-Lucas said.
