4 votes separate race in Ohio County

Updated: Wednesday, May 14 2014, 06:38 PM EDT

Election Day may be over, but whether or not all the races are final in Ohio County could still be up in the air.

Four votes are all that stands between who will run in the general election for the Republican nomination to the 3rd District House of Delegates.

Two people will run for in the general election. Erikka Storch, R-Ohio County, was the top vote-getter, but Dolph Santorine and Martin Sheehan were extremely close in votes -- as Santorine took the lead by four.

Election night results had Storch at 2,113 votes, Santorine at 809, Sheehan at 805 and Chris Elswick with 463.

Santorine said he was surprised it shook out the way it did.

"My strategy for the primary was stealth and it ended up paying off," said Santorine. "My job is to keep Chris Elswick and Marty Sheehan in the process as we go forward."

Santorine may have to wait until Monday at 9 a.m. for official results -- that's when the votes will be certified by a canvas.

Sheehan, however, congratulated Santorine and said he wouldn't ask for a recount, but said he'd be standing by come Monday morning.

"The old days of saying I demand a recount because someone put a check mark or an X on a ballot -- those days are gone and we have precision in elections," said Sheehan.
