Wheeling, W.Va. -

Crittenton Services went wild in pink on Saturday evening for its 11th annual Paint the Town Pink Gala at the Wheeling Artisan Center.

Crittenton Services has been transforming the lives of young women and families in West Virginia for over 100 years and all of the proceeds from the event go to the services that they provide.

The event had a safari theme with artwork done by women in the art therapy portion of the residential program.

Their residential program is for teens who are pregnant or parenting. The program offers therapy, parenting education and school.

“It’s just wonderful to see that everyone has a chance to be a good mom and to have a wonderful family and to be successful and that’s what we try to do. We helped these young women go through really bad traumatic experiences to turn it around with the support of others,” Kathy Szafran, CEO of Crittenton Services said.

Most of the young women suffer from some type of trauma, such as physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect and abandonment.

Charese Jamison is one of many whose life was transformed because of Crittenton. When she was 16 years old, she became pregnant and had nowhere to go.

“I had experienced a lot of trauma, a lot of insecurities, so during that time I was in a lot of classes, receiving a lot of therapy, really understanding why certain things happened to me and what I could do to kind of change my fate and my future,” Jamison said.

Jamison is now living in Utah and has a successful job and is getting married next year. Her daughter is now 20 and in college.

“I was there at 16, I didn’t know what my future would bring and as a result of being able to go through Crittenton and be successful in life, I have been in Washington D.C., advocating for young women as a result of Crittenton,” Jamison said.
