Diners in West Virginia called best tippers

WHEELING, W.Va--

Servers in West Virginia are getting some appreciation, according to information provided by the payment service Square.

Square provided Quartz with data on tens of millions of food-service transactions across the United States.

At restaurants across the country, the national average tip is 16.5 percent of the bill and that rises to 20.1 percent in West Virginia.


The average Mountain State diner only leaves a tip 58 percent of the time, according to the data.

In Ohio, the average tip was around 17 percent of the bill.

Nevada ranked as the worst tippers with only a 14.6 percent average tip.
