Groups ask residents to 'Challenge Wheeling'

Updated: Wednesday, June 4 2014, 10:25 AM EDT

Carpet Showcase Flooring Center and Youth Services Systems are both celebrating four decades in the city of Wheeling.

The business and non-profit have teamed for an event called “Challenge Wheeling.”

Christie Contraguerro said the event is scheduled for noon on June 21.

“I think of it like a 5K that challenges your brain and your legs,” said Contraguerro.

The race isn’t a normal 3.1-mile event – it’s a treasure hunt as well.

“You will get 12 clues and they are riddles that will send you to different spots in Wheeling,” said Contraguerro. “It'll be a fun day and you can explore and rediscover downtown.”

Teams will be made of two or more and hundreds will take to the streets to complete a variety of exciting mental and physical challenges.

The race benefits YSS--- a group that has helped more than 16,000 troubled and abused kids.

After the race a party will be held at River City, and of course, there are prizes.

“We are having an optional costume contest where there are three $50 gift cards to be given out,” said Contraguerro.

“The top three teams will receive cash prizes, first place gets $500, second place $100 and third will get $50.”
