WHEELING, W.Va.

Before the players took the ice Monday night at Wes Banco Arena, they suited up for a cause.

The Wheeling Park High School hockey team wore special purple cancer awareness jerseys to support its local American Cancer Society group at the high school.

All the proceeds from tickets and merchandise went to the American Cancer Society.

There was also a ceremonial puck drop before the game. Stevie Hamilton, a 4-year-old Wheeling boy, was diagnosed with melanoma recently and had his chance to be a part of it all.

Dalton Haas, a senior player for Wheeling Park, got the idea to do a cancer awareness game because of his involvement with the American Cancer Society group at school as well as being a varsity member of the hockey team.

Over 50 people filled the seats to support the cause and saw an exciting hockey game in the process.
