OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. --

A mother accused of shoplifting while she left her son in a hot car will be sentenced for child neglect.

Jeannette Darnley said she left her 9-year-old son alone in a car at the Highlands in July and faces up to five years in jail.

Darnley entered and Alford Plea, which means she does not admit guilt but recognizes prosecutors have enough evidence against her to convict her.

Assistant Prosecutor Shawn Turak said Darnley previously lied when she said she thought her husband, Stephen Clemens, was in the car with her child.

Clemens' is scheduled to be tried on Tuesday on one count of child neglect and two counts of entering without breaking.

Darnley will not be sentenced until after Clemens' trial. Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
