OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. - Police believe that two bank robberies that took place in the Wheeling area are connected.
The first took place on March 25, when a man entered the United Bank in downtown Wheeling and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the teller.
Fast-forward to April 4, police found themselves searching for a man caught on surveillance robbing the Chase Bank on Market Street.
These are two bank robberies that police now believe are connected.
"Through further investigations, continuing investigations, we have pretty much determined that we are dealing with the same suspect in both bank robberies at this time," said Sgt. Gregg McKenzie of the Wheeling Police Department.
At United Bank, the robber was dressed in a green hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and dark glasses. Police say he showed a knife, grabbed the cash out of the teller's hand and then took off.
At Chase Bank, multiple surveillance images show a man a gray coat with a black hood, black gloves, dark sunglasses and a red bandana.
"Every tip that we do get has been followed up on," McKenzie said. "They have come up short, so we're just hoping that we can get some more. It's frustrating to be this far past the bank robberies and not have a suspect in custody."
After initially believing the robber fled the Chase Bank in a Chrysler, further investigation has revealed a new vehicle police are looking for: an early 2000s, dark-colored, four-door Hyundai.
"We just need a break some way, somehow," McKenzie said. "Whether somebody talks, somebody overhears somebody talking. Whether someone says, 'Hey, this is who it is,' we just need some type of assistance in that way. "
