WHEELING, W.Va. - Police officers are learning new ways to find drug smugglers with training that's being held in Wheeling.
Thirty-seven police officers from Maryland, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania arrived at WesBanco Arena to learn about the new methods drug smugglers are using to hide their illegal stash.
During the training, drugs, guns, and bombs were concealed inside cars that were parked inside the arena.
"They're exposed to 150 different concealment methods and they end up searching 10 vehicles, also do some scenarios, do some officer safety issues on traffic stops," James Eagleson, lead instructor  of Northeast Counterdrug Center said. "We cover a wide variety of stuff. It's not just drug training, we're also looking for IEDs explosives, anything that can be transported down the highway."
The program is sponsored by the Northeast Drug Training Center.
The classes are currently in 18 different states.
"These are free training programs for our law enforcement officers around the whole United States." Eagleson said.
However, this will be the last year for the program. The federal funding has been cut.
"A lot of departments depend on this money to train our officers." Eagleson said.
The three-day training for all the officers ends Wednesday.
