WHEELING, W.Va. – Large-scale renovations and repairs are in the works for Wheeling’s WesBanco Arena.
In the next few weeks some small changes to the arena will be made, as stakeholders, city and leaders and consultants are going over the possible plans.
"A year ago when city council raised that half-percent sales tax-- under the new home rule-- that gave the city the opportunity to provide these upgrades,” said Denny Magruder, who runs the arena.
On Tuesday architects, city staff and representatives from the Wheeling Nailers met to discuss $4 million worth of renovations, to the building, which was built in 1977.
Magrudger says the floor on the ice -- tattered and cold -- will be replaced. They are on the waiting list for a new Zamboni. And they will begin taking bids for a new scoreboard.
New seats will be installed by next summer and the front of the building will undergo a huge remodeling process.
The project should be completed around December 2015.
