WHEELING, W.Va. --

A Wheeling man convicted of illegally exporting firearms to buyers in Canada and Israel will spend five years on probation.

Michael Steven Frank pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to export firearms and money laundering.

Frank was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Wheeling. He had faced up to 25 years in prison, according to a report published by The Associated Press.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey noted Frank's lack of a prior criminal record, family and community support and attendance of counseling sessions for post-traumatic distress order.

Prosecutors say Frank acquired two dozen firearms from gun dealers in the Ohio Valley and shipped them to buyers in the two countries in exchange for cash payments.
