Wheeling ready for Mountaineer Brewfest

Updated: Friday, August 15 2014, 06:08 PM EDT
OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. -- WTOV9 is a proud sponsor of the inaugural “Mountaineer Brewfest,” which is being held this weekend at Wheeling’s Heritage Port.
The event will play host several breweries from all over West Virginia. It kicked off Friday night at the Brewsmaster Tour, where they're actually showing how beer is made, from the ingredients, to the mashing, to the lautering to brewing, to the finished product.
Anheuser Busch brought it one of its mobile Budweiser Brewmaster Tours to provide a hands-on brewery to kick off the festival.
David Cummins, a retired Brewmaster with Anheuser Busch, said they're going to take people through the entire brewing process, showing folks some of the raw ingredients they use to make Budweiser and how they use those special barley and hops to make to the savory flavor.
"(Friday night) we are having our customers here,” said Erin Carenbauer of Carenbauer Distributing. “Our retail customers as well as the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce so they can come to our warehouse, see this fabulous Budweiser Brewmaster Tour, and also sample some of our products we have coming out."
They're also giving away a 10,000 Folds of Honor Scholarship to two students, plus there's live entertainment and beer sampling.
On Saturday, for the big day, eight different breweries will be at Heritage port, all starting at 4 pm.
