WHEELING, W.Va.--

Wheeling Jesuit University will host its first Community Day on Saturday. The celebration is to commemorate 60 years in the community.

Students, alumni, employees and neighbors are all invited to the event. The university will have plenty of events, including a tailgate, lacrosse and rugby games, a culture festival, activities at the Challenger center, music and food.

Well have a preview of our spring musical, a childrens play, presentations by staff and students and our culture festival will highlight the many international students that we have, said WJU chief of staff Mark Phillips.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the main campus of WJU at 316 Washington Ave. in Wheeling.

People with families, couples, anyone should be able to find something fun to do, said Phillips. We are really trying to highlight who we are to the community in general.

The day ends with a Gaudiosa, meaning joyous feast in Latin, an event to raise funds for student scholarships.

That event is sold out, but the rest of our daily events are open to anyone and most are free, said Phillips.

WJU will also rededicate its Athletic Hall of Fame at 3 p.m. inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center.

"We set this day as a chance to invite all of our friends and partners to campus to enjoy all that we have to offer, said WJU President Rev. James Fleming.

The works of our students, faculty, athletes and artists will be showcased throughout the day and we hope that everyone in the community will come to campus, added Fleming.
