Armed robbery suspect caught in Columbus

WHEELING, W.Va. -

After two armed bank robberies occured in less than one hour on Saturday, the FBI picked up the suspect, William McBride, Jr. near Columbus.

The first bank robbery happened on Wheeling Island and the second one happened in St. Clairsville.

The Wheeling Police Department responded to a call around 11:15 a.m. Saturday in regards to an alarm at the Wheeling Island Wesbanco.

When officers arrived they found out it was an armed robbery and that the suspect fled on foot west from the bank.

Lt. Rob Marriner, with the Wheeling Police Department, said the suspect walked into the bank, put a gun on the counter and demanded money.

According to Belmont County Sheriff's Department, there was another armed bank robbery around noon Saturday at the Wesbanco in St. Clairsville.

McBridge is currently in jail in Columbus.
