STEUBENVILLE, Ohio

A program for area youth is helping keep kids off the street and away from violence.

Let’s play ball is geared towards young men and women in Jefferson County, who have an interest in sports.

The basketball program which started last summer has already seen growth.

Games started in June and should be complete sometime this October.

"This year we did good, we made it all the way to the single elimination but we lost it,” said Joseph Jordan, captain of Let’s Play Ball.

"My kids that I target are the ones who are hurting, the ones who have fell between the cracks and they need love as well, so it gives me a chance to show them the care in our community and it also gives me a chance to teach them about structures and to believe in yourself and that you can actually do it,” said Regina Blanchard, founder of Let’s Play Ball.

This year’s games are taking place at the Saint Vincent’s Church in Elm Grove, West Virginia.
