BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – The Belmont County Courthouse has been around for more than 100 years. With that comes some wear and tear, so the County Commission is taking action.
Structural improvements include sealing up cracks and holes where water is getting inside and bleaching the sandstone building. The commission calls these minor repairs, preventive care, which will cost less to fix now instead of later when the problems become larger.
The current plan includes not using direct or indirect tax payer dollars to pay for the repairs.
"What our residents need to see now is we're taking care of their building at the lowest possible cost and trying to do so without any tax payer dollars, and I think that's win, win for everybody."
The cost isn't final, but for now, funds for the repairs will come from the Ohio casino tax money and potentially the county's oil and gas revenue depending on the cost.
