Blood drive underway in Wintersville

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio—

The annual Jefferson Media Day Blood Drive got underway in Wednesday morning in Wintersville.  The drive is part of the national American Red Cross 100 Days of Summer – 100 Days of Hope campaign.  The event is being held at St. Florian Hall from 9 a.m. unitl 7 p.m.

Donors walked away with Red Cross T-shirts donated by Franciscan University of Steubenville and Trinity Health Systems.

According to the Red Cross, vacations and summer activities often result in a decline in blood donations during the summer. In fact, during the months of June, July and August, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need. The trend is particularly noticeable around holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

If you were not able to attend Wednesday’s drive, another one will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4 at the Fort Steuben Mall.

To schedule an appointment for other Red Cross blood drives, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
