Charges filed in Wheeling Federal Building threat

Updated: Wednesday, February 19 2014, 09:46 PM EST

WHEELING, W.Va. – Charges have been filed against Charles Coffman, who is accused of making a threat concerning Wheeling's Federal Building at a local doctor's office Wednesday afternoon.

Coffman was allegedly unhappy his prescription would not be filled, saying if things kept going like this for him, he'd do what that cop did to the federal building. It was a reference to a retired Wheeling policeman opening fire on the building last October.

The building was on full lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

Coffman was arraigned by magistrate Joe Roxby. He’s charged with a felony of making a terrorist threat.

He and another woman, not charged, were picked up near a pizza shop downtown. Coffman allegedly said he could get guns and shoot up the federal building.

In a hearing, Coffman said he was trying to get medical help.

“Northwood Mental Hospital refused me and would not take me in,” he said. “Here I am right now.”

Coffman is in the Northern Regional Jail on $25,000 bond. If found guilty, he faces 1-3 years in jail.
