Child left in hot car, father facing neglect charge

Updated: Friday, July 25 2014, 11:52 AM EDT

WHEELING, W.Va.--

A Wheeling Island man is facing serious charges after officers say he left his 18-month-old daughter in a hot car.

According to reports, it happened around 2:45 p.m. on S. Wabash Street.
Officers said they found the young girl asleep in a 1996 Subaru Outback soaking in sweat.

According to the complaint, officers knocked on the residence and inside the home found Cory Rockhold, 33, passed out on the couch.

Officers say Rockhold was in an incoherent state and told police he didn’t have a small child. He later told police his daughter was “running around somewhere.”

Rockhold was taken to Ohio Valley Medical Center where he tested positive for marijuana, cocaine and benzodiazepine.
Rockhold is charged with felony child neglect and is now in the West Virginia Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.
